Parno Graszt Ensemble

This roma folk ensemble had been playing for 15 years in the village of Paszab (located in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county), when in 2002 they became the focus of international and national interest.
Parno Graszt
/

Their debut album ’I bang the Piano’ (Rávágok a zongorára, 2002) quickly worked itself up onto 7th position on the world music charts of European radio stations, and was the beginning of international and national concert tours. After conquering East-Central Europe, they gave concerts in India and the United States. At WOMEX in Coppenhagen they showed every one what their name (Parno Graszt means white horse) truly signifies. In the romani language this white horse is bred on the of cleanliness and freedom. Who has ever listened to the albums of the band ’I Bang the Piano’ (Rávágok a zongorára), ’In my World’ (Járom az utam, 2004), ’The World is Made for Me’ (Ez a világ nekem való, 2007), and ’Don’t Stop till the Break of Dawn’ (Reggelig mulatok, 2011), or has heard them live cannot agree more: there is a natural exuberance and bounce to their music that is fresh, light and is performed with an extraordinary ease and candour.
