Téka Band
They have taken their name from the small wall-cupboard ’téka’ where pheasants and noble families alike kept their most valued possessions. It is their artistic vocation to preserve and hand down Hungarian folk music, and that is what inspired their 24 albums, among them the very successful ’You play I dance’ (Ha te húzod, én meg járom), ’Our Masters’ (Mestereink), ’The many beautiful rivers of Transylvania’ (Erdélyország sok szép víze), ’Ancient East’ (Őskelet) and ’Wildflowers’ (Vadvirágok).
Members of the Téka ensemble are active as teachers in schools, and originated the Téka camp. They have toured schools with their series of concerts entitled ’Music of the Hungarians’ (Magyarok muzsikája).
They have been awarded with the ’Young Masters of Folk Art’ (Népművészet Ifjú Mestere), the ’For Hungarian Culture Prize’ (Magyar Művészetért-díj) and the ’Bartók Béla Memorial Prize’ (Bartók Emlékdíj), and were awarded by the the Transylvanian World Federation (Erdélyi Világszövetség Becsületrend Rubinja) as well. The band has given concerts in the United States, Mexico, Canada, India, Japan, China and Australia.
It is a rare feast to hear authentic Hungarian music from such an authentic band with as long a tradition as the Téka Band.
